Where it started

It started with a tiny larva and a big idea

GrubTerra began in 2019, when our founder and CEO, Michael Servais, set out to build a company that could feed animals well and help the environment at the same time. Then he discovered black soldier fly larvae: tiny grubs that turn food waste into rich, natural protein.

He started raising the larvae himself. After a lot of trial and error, a crowdfunding campaign brought in enough early pre-orders to move GrubTerra into a full-scale production facility.

“I started GrubTerra to make the biggest positive impact on the environment that I could. Feeding chickens better turned out to be the way to do it.”

Where we're headed

From one treat to whole-flock care

Larvae were just the beginning. As our community of flock keepers grew, so did their needs, and we grew right along with them: into holistic care for the whole backyard flock, with supplements for daily gut defense and gut support, all-in-one vitamins and a fresher coop.

And we're not stopping there. A GrubTerra feed line and products for other animals are on the way, made with the same care, because chickens are more fragile than most people realize and the people who love them deserve real peace of mind.
